ABOUT US
Misunderstood Mutts Rescue exists to ensure the welfare of canines while helping to stop the abuse, neglect, overpopulation, and euthanasia in Washington State.
We're also 100% volunteer-operated and 110% sure that all dogs deserve to be happy, healthy, and loved!
OUR MISSION
Misunderstood Mutts Rescue (MMR) is a registered 501(c)3 volunteer-based organization serving the greater Yakima Valley and Puget Sound region. We are dedicated to saving abandoned, free, and throwaway dogs in areas where abuse, neglect, and cruelty are prevalent.
MMR places dogs in temporary foster homes where they are vetted, spayed/neutered (when medically sound), socialized, vaccinated, and any medical/behavioral issues are addressed. We strive to place the right dog with the right family and our process requires not only an application, but a home check, references, a meet & greet, and a representative from MMR performing proper introduction techniques.
MMR was formed in October 2016 with the goal of rescuing dogs from our own backyards, but in 2020 we expanded our vision to provide low-cost spay and neuter services with the use of voucher systems and traveling clinics. Rescuing is only a bandaid for the problem of overpopulation - spay and neuter is the real solution.
Our ultimate goal is to be a catalyst for a world free of homeless, neglected, abused, and abandoned pets.

Meet The Volunteer Team:
Nicole

Nicole started fostering for MMR in 2020 and has been hooked ever since. She does home checks, application reviews, behavioral assessments, fostering, transporting, and doing whatever it takes to bring abused, neglected, and abandoned dogs into the rescue.
Cheri

Co-Founder
Bellingham, WA
Cheri co-founded MMR in 2016. She facilitates adoptions in Northern Washington (including British Columbia) - but let's be honest, she also does pretty much everything. Home checks, application reviews, behavioral assessments, fostering, transporting, and a whole lot of vet appointment coordination.
